About The Festival

“Theatre at its best will henceforth mark the Kerala summers”- It was this dream that prodded Abhinaya to set out on its 1st & 2nd Travelling Theatre Festival in the summers of 2010 & 2011. The stupendous success of the 1st & 2nd editions inspired Abhinaya to embark once again on its 3rd Summer Festival in April this year, with 3 plays at 8 locations across Kerala spanning 30 days.

With two thoughtfully selected plays from the cream of its repertoire and one from a partnering theatre collective - The Theatre Initiative Kerala, the festival this year commences with Invisible Cities at Mananthavadi on 28th of April. The festival then travels to Perambra, Ponnani, Ernakulam, Mala, Kattappana, Kollam to finally culminate in Thiruvananthapuram. The selection of the Festival’s venues this year is a continuation of Abhinaya’s focussed objective of taking meaningful theatre to non-urban spaces and reaching out to a cross section of society. The plays to be performed include ‘INVISIBLE CITIES’, ‘PACHA’ and ‘SHUDDHAMADDALAM’.
